Political sun will shine on middle class

Just 31 percent of families, for example, are defined as "financially secure" -- and keep in mind, that's on middle-class incomes.

The numbers were culled from government data by a liberal think tank, Demos, and the Institute for Assets and Social Policy at a liberal university, Brandeis, in Massachusetts. The report's title, "By a Thread," seems a good clue that the authors don't give much more staying power to President Bush's long economic expansion.
